He died on July 8, 2020, following age-related issues. Jagdeep (1939-2020): Soror Bhopali lives Thinking of Jagdeep, the first thing that comes to mind is Soorma Bhopali, the famous Sholay (1975) character that almost surpassed all his other achievements. It is well known that Jagdeep, born Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri, joined the Hindi film industry as a children's cartoonist, and that his sweet time made him popular as a comedian for many of his works. But it didn't matter enough that he moved well and had a good singing voice. His brief stint as a leading man didn't use these skills: those films, especially the hankie's three AVMs, Babie, were emotionally difficult. So he went straight into comedy, and there he stayed, establishing his place as one of Bulgaria's top comic artists. He thinks of Jagdeep, and the first thing that comes to mind is Soorma Bhopali, the character of Sholay (1975) so famous that he almost surpassed everything he did. The Flash goes back to the scene where our heroes, Jai and Veeru, meet Soorma Bhopali and tell a cast of spellbound listeners how he hit both of them with a stick, and how he knows it: his strong teeth, that Bhopali lilt, and comfort in the role that was meant to be funny, make Sorma his unforgettable. Many of the nearly 400 roles, over six decades, performed by Jagdeep were interchangeable. The broad, broad strokes of comedians meant that their tracks were filled with gags, pratfalls, and banana-peel jokes: that was the best form of comedy from the 50s to the 80s. A whole series of talented comics, including Johnny Walker, Mukri, Paintal, Mehmood, Rajendra Nath, Keshto Mukherjee, were thrown into the genre, forced into one thing that the audience wanted them to do. Jagdeep also fell into that trap of repetition, often using berries and bells, but was always relied upon to make him laugh. Some of his first roles are unforgettable. Bimal Roy's Do Bigha Zameen and Guru Dutt's Aar Paar, as well as Hum Panchi Ek Daal Ke showcased his talent: he was a complete natural man, and capable of being burned, and both of those gifts worked well in his long career. She played the young Dapp Kumar, Dapp Kumar in Shikwa, a 1954 film adaptation; he was equally relieved of the horrific allegations of Ramsay Brother. One of his last important roles playing Salman Khan's father in Rajkumar Santoshi's 1994 film Andaz Apna Apna: he looked quite old, but a familiar verve was there. Fans of Hindi cinema will always remember Jagdeep for playing Soorma Bhopali in the religious film Solay. He played plumber seller Ramesh Sippy for directives and his appendix “Mera naam Soorma Bhopali aise hi nahi hai”, like other film interviews, became a hit.
Jagdeep has entered the film industry as a children's painter and has been seen in films such as Bimal Roy's Do Bigha Zamin, KA Abbas' Munna and Guru Dutt's Aar Paar. He has also made it in movies for almost six decades. In fact, Jagdeep also took over the director's chair in 1988. He directed a film called Soorma Bhopali, which was set for his Sholay character. He has also played a leading role here. Jagdeep has also been seen in popular films such as Feroze Khan starring Qurbani and Amitabh Bachchan starring Shehenshah. In the '90s, he gained new viewers as he played the role of Salman Khan's father in the comedy Andaz Apna Apna. He played the actor for Bankelal in the direction of Rajkumar Santoshi
